$13M Defender M order for TenCate

Almelo - TenCate Defense & Tactical, a business unit of TenCate Protective Fabrics USA Inc., has announced receipt of a new $13 million order for TenCate Defender M fabric from Propper International for the manufacture of uniforms for the U.S. Marine Corp's Flame Resistant Organizational Gear (FROG) program. It is the largest single order of TenCate Defender M for this Marine program.


Scientists develop test to measure interaction of fabrics with skin cells

Elon, NC – Scientists at the Hohenstein Institute have created a unique textile testing methodology that allows manufacturers to evaluate the effects their fabrics may have on the people who wear them. Scientists at Hohenstein’s Institute for Hygiene and Biotechnology have developed the ability to test a fabric’s interaction with living skin cells. Test results will indicate whether a fabric is likely to induce an allergic reaction or skin irritation in the wearer.

ExxonMobil Chemical introduces new resin at ANEX 09 + SINCE 09

Houston - ExxonMobil Chemical demonstrated its commitment to the nonwovens industry at ANEX 09 + SINCE 09 in Shanghai from May 20-22, 2009. A new resin, ExxonMobil PP 3885E1 polypropylene, was introduced, while ExxonMobil Chemical's broad portfolio of Vistamaxx specialty elastomers and its polypropylene solutions for nonwoven applications will also be on display.


Ahlstrom presents biodegradable solution for infusion products

PolyU knitwear fashion show gets industry applause

Hong Kong – The creative flair and design talent of graduating students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)'s Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) have won big rounds of applause from the industry at their Knitwear Fashion Show held today at The Mira Hong Kong.

A collaborated effort of design students, ITC, various knitwear producers and yarn suppliers, the Knitwear Fashion Show aimed to foster relations between ITC and industry, as well as showcasing the quality design and products of the PolyU students. In designing their own collection of six outfits, 13 graduating students majoring in knitwear design were provided with raw materials sponsored by knitwear producers and yarn suppliers.

Stoll flat knitting technology for technical applications

First FR recycled polyester fibre

Greensboro - Leading producer of multi-filament polyester and nylon textured yarns Unifi, has announced that Momentum Textiles, a leading supplier of contract textiles, has selected Repreve FR for a line of healthcare privacy curtains. Repreve FR is the most recent product addition to Unifi’s family of recycled fibres and is the first recycled polyester fibre with inherent flame retardant properties, the company says.

Techtextil North America weathers economy on west coast

Missoni helps Woolmark celebrate iconic Little Black Dress

Sydney – Global textile symbol, the Woolmark recently shared the limelight at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week with Missoni and Diet Coca Cola, in honour of the global fashion icon, the Little Black Dress.

The Little Black Dress event, presented by Diet Coca Cola and sponsored by the Woolmark brand, brought together 10 fashion designers, each of whom designed three dresses inspired by the silhouette of the iconic bottle shape. Texas Tech receives patent for decontamination wipe process

Lubbock, TX - The process used to create nonwoven toxic chemical decontamination wipes, such as Texas Tech University’s Fibertect, recently received a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

“Receiving the patent means the University has secured the intellectual property protection for the decontamination wipe’s technology”, said David Miller, Vice Chancellor of Texas Tech University System’s Office of Technology Commercialization.

Nilit acquires Nylstar's US business

Migdal Ha’emek, Israel – Nylon 6.6 producer Nilit has announced that it has acquired Nylstar’s U.S. operations including its nylon 6.6 plant in Martinsville, VA.

Last year Nilit opened a new state-of-the-art facility in China and the addition of this US plant will become a part of its global production facility network, demonstrating its confidence and investment in the nylon apparel industry throughout the world. With the Nylstar acquisition, Nilit now becomes one of the world’s largest nylon 6.6 producers for the apparel industry.

Flax and hemp to feature in new era bio-composites

DuPont Nonwovens & Waste Management in Tyvek recycling program

Wilmington, DE & Houston,TX - DuPont Nonwovens and Waste Management have launched a national mail-in recycling program to capture banners, envelopes and other items printed on DuPont Tyvek. This would provide a method for printers and other large volume users of printed products who are looking for a responsible and simple alternative to adding Tyvek to the nation’s landfills.

Once recycled, Tyvek items will be repurposed for other products such as decking, playground equipment and corrugated pipes. The program answers a growing need for the return of printed wide-format materials including signs, banners and posters, as well as envelopes, wristbands and racing bibs into existing recycle streams.

Bangladesh knitwear production costs soar in power crisis

Dhaka - The use of diesel to power factories due to constant power cuts has increased production costs in Bangladesh’s knitwear sector by 20 percent.

Speaking to the Daily Star on Tuesday, BKMEA President Fazlul Hoque said: “The power situation turned so bad that outages continue through half of the factories’ total production period.”
