Dyneema in commercial fishing a winner for people and planet

Urmond - DSM Dyneema is to present the results of new research that confirms use of its Dyneema ultra-strong lightweight fibre in fishing nets can yield major energy savings for fishermen, and make an important contribution to the sustainability of the fishing industry. First wellness label awarded to German knitter

Bönnigheim – German manufacturer of knitted sportswear Schneider Sportswear OHG from Albstadt in Baden-Württemberg has been awarded the Hohenstein Institute’s first Wellness Label for textiles and clothing. The company’s senior management was presented with the label for use on its products in September by Silke Off, Head of the Laboratory for Clothing Physiology at the Hohenstein Institute, who had played an important part in designing, developing and introducing the new label.

Report Summary:

2009 was a mixed year for the international knitting machinery market. Global deliveries to the world's mills increased in the case of single jersey and double jersey circular knitting machinery, but there was a fall in shipments of hand knitting and semi-automatic knitting machinery. There was also a decline in shipments of electronic flatbed knitting machinery.

Leigh launches carpet and plastics recycling company

Spartanburg, SC – US based Leigh Fibers has established a dedicated business unit to divert discarded carpet and plastic from landfills and turn it into fibres and densified product used by plastics moulders. Current and near-term equipment installations will give Leigh Carpet & Plastics Recycling, LLC the capacity to keep more than 100 million pounds a year of used carpet out of landfills, which would increase the volume currently diverted in the United States by about one-third.

Albany Engineered Composites expands 3-D weaving operations

Rochester, NH - Albany International announced on Friday that its aerospace composites subsidiary, Albany Engineered Composites, Inc. (AEC), will be further expanding its operations in Rochester, New Hampshire.
